30th Anniversary Centro Studi Martha Harris Firenze International Congress
13-14 May 2023
The last few years have been characterised, in the world of childhood and adolescence, by transformations in the way of experiencing relationships, affections, sexual identifications, as well as relationships with the body and food. A series of phenomena, as interesting as they are complex, for example the general uncertainty, the ‘liquidity’ of relationships, the compulsive use of social networks, and the dimension of loneliness, have probably shown – even before the covid 19 pandemic – how the world of childhood and adolescence has been characterised by profound transformations. These have often made it difficult for the adult and parental world to understand the change that are taking place. We have been asking ourselves whether in our contemporary cultures we are faced with new forms of mental functioning AND new forms of distress and psychopathology. We wonder if it will be possible to understand the clinical events of the patient in the consultation room without contextualising them in a cultural setting. Psychoanalysis, in its being a social theory and a model of interpretation of the subject, allows us to have a double vision that connects the child and the adolescent to the changing social and cultural scenario.
